  • Trainer Profile

He has worked across a diverse range of industries and brands, both in the UK and internationally, in finance, insurance, construction, health sciences and health care, the public, not for profit, and private sectors, retail and telecoms. He has managed workforce budgets up to £2.5billion / 50,000 FTE and programmes for over 100,000 FTE: in transformation, growth, cost reduction and restructuring.

His training courses are grounded in this practical understanding of how to succeed in Strategic Workforce Planning and are aimed at helping organisations deliver effectively within their own business, whatever their current level of maturity.

As well as sharing his knowledge through training directly to organisations, and formerly on behalf of the CIPD, Martin has also been a keynote speaker at several industry conferences. His award winning work at The Metropolitan Police features in the 2017 book “The Power of People”. He also writes online, has co-authored a book that included the evaluation of a competency development programme and can be heard and seen on various channels (including Clubhouse and YouTube).

  • Develop your skills and abilities across the end to end process and improve collaboration with colleagues
  • Develop your understanding of how to make Strategic Workforce Planning more effective and be more successful in your organisation

  • Why your organisation would benefit?

  • Develop your team’s ability to better support delivery of strategic ambitions and operational goals
  • Understand and navigate the risks of not optimizing your workforce
  • Improve your organisation’s productivity and effectiveness
  • Understand your level of SWP Maturity and set actions to improve

  • How the learning unfolds

The training day is based on several micro-sessions, most including an activity, to clarify and reinforce learning and considers how to sharpen your workforce in line with organisational strategy, operational demands and the need to stay agile. Micro-sessions will cover:

    The 4 fundamentals of SWP
how to ensure they are in place or leverage value with what you have, for example, imperfect data

    The 5 Steps of SWP
from organisational strategy to workforce implications to operationalising the plan: analysing current and future workforce, identifying and describing the gap, creating strategic workforce strategy and plans and executing successful implementation

Roles and Accountabilities and the SWP team

How to navigate challenges and build support with the right governance

An SWP assessment of your organisation’s level of maturity forms the pre-work to the training course. Completed one week before the training day it provides a baseline for change, guiding your next steps, as you embed Strategic Workforce Planning as an Organisational Capability in your organisation.
